Free Lessons
Return to: ChessOK - that was not too helpful. So maybe you should just review the handful of freebie lessons that will eventually populate this section and decide for yourself if The Coach makes any sense. Some might find the absence of 'rote learning drills' and the lack of much in the way of opening tricks and traps to be memorized to not at all be what you may have expected ... or been hoping to see. My advice to students seeking that has invariably been, "Find another Coach." In my opinion, a Coach's job is NOT to do the student's work for them or spoon feed information to passive consumers of information for regurgitating on some kind of test. My job has always been to try to undo the damage done by most of those beginner books and encourage my students to change HOW they are thinking rather than focusing on WHAT they see. It is an approach that many these days simply cannot seem to grasp. Blame it on a seriously compromised education system or a society that values the ability to 'conform to the norms of the day', one thing is sure - the independent thinker is discouraged at every turn. Maybe that is why I no longer accept students these days unless they can convince me that they have what it takes to do their own work and occasionally be prepared to 'step outside the box'. Good intentions and wishful thinking are simply not enough. Caveat emptor.
